Well, its not so easy to replace the starter.

I'm not sure what the Bently says, but I can't imagine doing it without lowering the trans about seven inches at the driveshaft flange after taking off the protefctive bars and the shaft. Then you have pretty good access, though you also have to remove the diff lock servo and associated brackets too. Being a Tiico also may complicate things. With the wbx I use a big piece of pipe and some chain to support the engine from on top while still allowing the front part of the engine to slant down as you loer the trans. Mabe with the Tiico you have a different starter set up, that would be the best. Re starter replacement, iafter much grief with the starter on my 83.5 I took Dennis Hayes suggestion and replaced it with a hi torque unit I bought from Weddle. It is great! 8 don't know if they also fit a Syncro though.
