There are many synthetic oils available that are specifically designed for Diesel use. Amsoil and Mobil Delvac for example. In addition to the soot control, the oil also has to neutralize the sulfur found in diesel fuel. Some of the additives used to do this destroy catalytic converters. Note now that most gasoline engine motor ails are no longer rated for use in diesels at all. For example, Castrol GTX no longer has the CD Diesel ratings.

Jon,

Diesel motors and gas motors have different requirements. I am sure that you noticed how black your oil was even a few miles after a change. That is because diesel motors put soot into the oil. There are oils specifically made to deal with this soot. I do not know of a synthetic or any oil that Kendall makes that is suited to diesels.
