Subject:      Extra bulb in rear lens: What is it for (Westy 85)

In my Vanagon GL 85 (CDN version) there is a bulb in a holder in the
bottom part of the rear lens assembly. The lens assembly is marked DOT
(USA version), and that extra light is behind the cateye part of the
lens (middle of the bottom part).

It doesnt seems to light, what is it for?
