It all depends on how far away from home you want to be stranded. I was in a semi-wilderness campground, 2 1/2 hours away, on mostly gravel road when one of my Westy's hoses gave up the ghost. Cost to replace all the hoses: just over $500 CND plus labour.

Tip: If your Westy is going to be towed on a gravel road, make sure the towing company uses a flatbed truck else your Westy's body will suffer stone damage.

How do I know when it's time? A close inspection revealed some hoses obviously in need of replacing, and others that look just fine. Is this a matter of "it can go at any time after four years," or will hoses give some visual clue before giving up the fight? Bob W. '87 Westy
