Subject:      rear hatch mounted dome light switch? what models had them?

 on my '84 vanagon GL parts van i have a switch at the bottom of the hatch
where the hatch striker plate is on the body that operates the interior dome
lights when the hatch is opened..     on  my '84 wolfsburg, i dont have
this..   any idea why not?  do the vanagon campers not have this switch
either?
any help/info appreciated..
