Our esteemed congresscritters banned the Lotus Elan from importation as it
didn't meet the crash/bumper tests.  A.C.B. Chapman the designer remarked
that the ability of the driver to use the nimble handling, outstanding
braking and superior acceleration combined with the small size of the car
far outweighed any collision armour that was required.

My 1972 Lotus/BRM Elan was a truly amazing sportscar.
