AH , yes , so it may be in the rest of the world. But here in the USA a Type 3 is a Squareback, Fastback, or Notchback.A type 2 is Bus or Transporter. A Type 4 is the 411, and of course a Type 1 is the sedan, or Bug. As for the Vanagon it is the Type 25, but we don't call it that. It is the Vanagon.

If you go to a junkyard to ask for parts for your 82 Type 2- you'll get the answer that there are no 82 Type 2's. Type 2 you are told covers everything from '49 to '79. If you go to a junkyard and find a part marked "Type 2", don't think that this will work on your Vanagon. It is for the Bus or it's Type 2 variations.

I suppose for the sake of uniformity in the global Vanagon community we could agree to call it the 251.

. The only numbers that matter other than the part numbers, are the price numbers!

Please, folks, the Vanagon, as with ALL of VW's light vans (ie not the LT) *IS* a Type 2 (Transporter)! The Type 2 IS the Transporter; some versions are merely given a secondary name such as Kombi, Samba, Vanagon or Caravelle. Despite the T3 not being MARKETED in USA as a Type 2 or Transporter, it is nevertheless.
