Brake noises are usually not the result of the pads themselves. You should use new anti-squeal shims behind the pads and replace the spring plate the sits between the pads and the retaining pins. These parts get weak from heat and age. Always replace. Make sure the rotor surface is good and the rotor has not worn below 11mm, and is not tapered.

Hi All,

I'm wondering what folks are using to avoid that horrible squealing sound? I'm not sure what pads are on the 84 Westy now. I assume that the genuine VW pads won't squeal but there are probably more cost effective solutions.

Thanks much,

Jack
