Subject: Please don't laugh, Missing tooth, drum brake,
new 16" tires and Insurance claims
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Okay, quick sad story with e a question at the end. I bought a set of Derek Drew's 16" wheels (they're great) and had new tires mounted and balanced at costco (they wouldn't mount them on my 91 syncro camper as they said it wasn't possible for 16" tires to work) I couldn't wait to get home to a proper jack so I used the vanagon jack in the darkness of the costco parking lot. Anyhow the jack failed leaving me physically caught in the middle. Lost one of my front teeth and gained a 4 inch cut that became very much infected 2 days after my 5 hours of oral surgery. Four days later I'm fine, glade to be alive and really glade my automobile insurance covers all expenses.

Vanagon question: When the jack failed the drivers side rear drum hit the concrete very hard. When I now drive the syncro every once in a while I hear a rubbing sound. I gained enough courage to jack-up the wheel CORRECTLY today and noticed the identical noise coming from the spring or shock as the vanagon was being lifted. My insurance covers all, any clue to what is causing the occasional rubbing sound? It only happens after driving a mile or two, while gong slow and is not relieved or caused when the brakes are applied? Also any advise about telling the insurance adjuster if its related to one spring or one shock all four should be replaced?

Thanks for your help and time, Sanford
