The question I have: Can I use this TDI oil filter on my '89 Jetta diesel? Longer and skinnier than the original diesel filter would be easier to manuever out the bottom. (The '89 filter is about the same length as a Vanagon filter, but is much bigger in diameter.) I have heard people have used these on Vanagons as well to increase oil capacity.

I like the idea of the bigger filter. I think the diesel filter does much the same thing.

Does anyone have any trepidations about a longer oil filter hanging down below the engine and being in the line of fire from rocks, beer cans, and homeless people's head's??

Not sure how sturdy the oil filter really is. Just wondering.

Regards,

John
