Bob, when I left Alaska last, I bought a new set of tires a few days before leaving. As I drove down the Alaska Highway I heard this squeaking, and it stayed with me. Especially notable at slow speeds and turning in parking lots. I stopped at several places on my journey and had the local mechanic take a look. I was afraid I would have a mechincal failure or bnlow out a tire way out in the middle of nowhere along the Highway. Six different garages, six different diagnoses. But it was narrowed to the left front tire/wheel. When I got down in the states I replaced both front tires, as I had developed some kind of alignment problem on the journey and had cut the tires out pretty badly. No more squeak!!

I have given that experience a lot of thought and could only come to the conclusion that the belts in the tire itself were moving and squeaking in the process.
