Subject: throttle cable

Yikes! I was checking out the engine compartment of my 81 air cooled and noticed the throttle cable is getting frayed from rubbing against the hole in the compartment where it exits heading for the front end.

How much fun is it to replace that baby? I have the aux furnace beneath the vehicle which makes all things fun going from front to back tons of fun. Looked in Bentley, and I'm sure its there somewhere, but I didn't find it.

I found one message in the archive that described using 12 gauge wire pulled through in place of the cable, which seem like a good idea, just a fear of it coming loose :-) and not knowing how large the holes are that it passes through.

Opinions on which way to pull it out? Never having seen one up close, can the new one be attached to the old one to and pulled through?

I would appreciate any comments or suggestions, as this one can't wait too much longer.. <g>

Thank a lot,

John
