You know, John, that's what I always thought, and here in Hawaii they only varied from one side of the island to the other... substantially higher in kona (tourist side) and lower in hilo... but consistent in each place with not more than a few cents per gallon variation. our the prices have always been about thirty percent higher than the mainland US. but lately... since sept 11th that is, prices are all over the place. hilo prices range from $1.71 or so up to $1.82. but in kona, costco is sellinig gas for $1.59 and right around the block it's $1.85!!! Go figgah! All I know is we are grateful cuz last summer is was well over $2.00 everywhere.
