The fill plug is on the side! The drain plug is towards the engine, at the
bottom. On my '85, I can not easily get at the drain plug without removing
the front exhaust y-pipe. Are the 2.1s like this? I used a pump to remove
and refill through the side "fill" plug.

Stephen,
Perhaps to help a bit more, follow the speedo cable from the inside of the
left front wheel hub to a little (pack of smokes sized) black box. You
should be able to find the button with a bit of exploring. Push it in with
a pencil, etc. till you hear a click. If you have an assistant who can
look
at the light while you are pushing in the button, he can verify the light
has gone out and save you hopping up and down to verify that the procedure
worked. I've never had to drop the spare tire to get at this box, but I
suppose it could make access easier.
The tranny drain plug is on the side of the tranny, a bit less than halfway
up the right side (with the shift linkage) about four inches from the front
(vehicle front) of the tranny. It is a 17mm allen head fitting and will be
flush or slightly recessed. DO NOT remove the drain plug until you have
determined that you can remove the fill plug (think about it).
Good luck,
Karl Wolz

can't find the damn switch to turn the light off. Then I went to drain and
fill the transmission,and I couldn't find a fill plug.Somebody let me know
