They use CB??? Wow - very old technology there! Here in BC it is all VHF - you will see a sign that says 2700 Forestry Service Road CAUTION RADIO CONTROLLED ROAD Use Weldwood TT - 154.100 MHz Every kilometer there is a sign... 2700, 2701, 2702 etc and you have to call '2702 empty' if you are at this marker heading 'to the bush' and '2702 loaded' if you are heading 'to town'. There are not many trucks here with a Chicken Band installed in them - usually a 50W VHF rig of some sort. In Idaho, a CB is a must for backroad travel. WHY? logging trucks! on roads if there is a sign that says "caution, logging truck" there will then be sheet of plywood with a number. that is the cb channel. then on the roads there will be mile-markers. 1 mile, two mile, etc. When you get to those markers you hop on your cb and say your position "car at mile 3" etc. If you don't you may get ran over by a logging truck. Literally. They typicially can't stop very well on those roads when carrying a full load. matthew |
