Oh, and don't forget to get a VERY long Phillips screw driver for those two screws on the left side of blower assembly. In preparation for a long trip with the newly acquired 87 Westy, I installed a new JVC compact disc player. Fit perfectly in the dash and even has a remote control so I can turn it on and off from bed. Cool, no? Brings out the shortcomings of the stock speakers, but that's for another time. Of course the VW gods had to exact revenge in order to make sure I don't have enough time to get this van ready. Problem one: driver's side speaker wire dead. Fishing a new one through the dash and through the door was a real treat. Minor, tho. Problem two is more complicated. After installing the radio I flipped all the electrical stuff to make sure I hadn't messed anything up. Turned on the front blower, it made a horrible scraping noise then stopped. Soon after the fuse blew. So did two others. There is precious little access to the innards of the dash as it is. Now I'm thinking I will have to take the whole thing apart to get to the blower motor. Ideas? Words of wisdom |
