Quick bullet list of the "positives" of owning a Syncro. (You pretty much
covered the negatives)
* A Syncro will get you more places than a non-Syncro will. (duh)
* There is the "cool factor" of knowing that you have a relatively rare
beast.
* They hold their resale value very well.
* You never wonder whether spending a big chunk of money to fix something is
worth it, since you cannot just go out and get a new one. (My Syncro is on
its second transmission rebuild- averaging one every 100,000 miles. ;-)
* There is another list you can join for just Syncro related discussion.
(Though it has been strangely quite lately...) heh heh
* You get a whole new range of accessories to spend money and thought on
like bigger tires, fender flairs, special shocks and springs, etc.
* Syncros handle better on the road. Much more "solid" feel in rainy and
snowy weather, or even in dry conditions.
* Syncros are taller - you can see all kinds of things driving down the road
and looking into other people's cars as you pass them by...
* Did I mention the "cool" factor?
A few negatives you missed:
* You become anal retentive about tire wear (must be within 2.5 mm all the
way around)
* You will forever wonder if your VC is "too aggressive"
* Syncros are taller - it may not fit in your garage. My Westy is about 7'
5" tall as I recall. Won't fit under the carport any more.
I can't see ever selling my Syncro Westy. Ever.

are seriously thinking of selling our beloved D-Westy and buying a late
edition with cruse control, A/C, and the ability of talking to each other
while driving down the road without yelling to be heard.

visit are a bit remote so the syncro would come in handy. Other than the
obvious added weight, lower fuel economy, small added complexity, and higher
selling price, what are the differences, plus and minus between syncro and
non syncro?
