Hi Andrew, I suggest connecting the minus(ground) of the headlights to the minus battery terminal with the bold wire (8SQ up) directly. Usually, the minus of the electric power flows to the body. But, a body has many welded section and plastic parts. These cause much resistance against the flow of the electric power. The voltage made of the dynamo gets a great loss as that result. This work to avoid this loss. You will earn many profits by making a way to let voltage go back to the battery (minus) smoothly. This work conforms to "the engine and the alternator" as well. This work is called "Earthing Systems" in Japan. The system which copes with many cars is sold in Japan. But, the system of Vanagon isn't sold. I examine this system now. Of course, you must polish the back of the headlights. :-) Good luck,
