The correct rear KYB shocks for a Vanagon are KG5557. This number should be
on the end of the box and usually stamped into the shock as well (along with
a manufacturing code).  If this is what you have, and they don't fit, then
you did something wrong. If this is not what you have, then we did something
wrong.  :-)
