Try setting your tire pressures to about 41psi front and 50psi rear. I find that this makes all the difference when running these Michelins on my Westy. It is much more stable in crosswinds like those you experienced. You may want to experiment with it a bit to find the perfect set-up for your van but the softer front tires really help.
