Brian, Do you think it makes a difference that it came over from Germany by the previous owner's father? History of vanaagons released in Germany may be ahead of what we goe here in US. Ummm. Perhaps I didn't read everything entirely, but that's probably not an '85 Vanagon being sold on Ebay, it's an '86. The images show a machine with square (not round) headlights, and either carfax or the ebay ad mentioned that it has the 2.1 liter engine. Doesn't a combination of square headlights and 2.1 liter engine make it (technically) a 1986 VW Vanagon Westfailia Camper Bus?

I know manufacture date doesn't necessarily correspond with model year.
