Is just the light that was coming on or where you having the light with the buzzer? If it was the buzzer light then this relies on the engine getting a good ground. I don't know how this could be related to the alternator belt tightening , except that maybe you inadvertantly made a better ground connection somehow when loosening and tightening the alternator. That is the best I can come up with and it sounds pretty shaky to me. Anyone else have an idea?

Dear list members,

My oil pressure light has been periodically coming on and off. I wasn't leaking anything and the level seemed fine. Nonetheless, I brought it into a repair shop to check the oil pressure. They confirmed that the pressure was within specifications, but the problem continued. They also tried to find any shorts in the oil pressure light. They didn't find anything.

I've noticed that the headlights get brighter when the light comes on. I followed the advice of a friend that knows more about cars than I and I tightened the alternator belt. The oil pressure light hasn't come on since but my friend says there's no way the alternator belt can have anything to do with the oil pressure light.

Can anyone confirm a connection between the two.
