I don't understand. If the auto switch is working, what possible use is a manual switch other than to make extra noise and wear out the fan? And if the auto switch is not working, why not just fix it and have a reliable system that doesn't depend on the operator turning things on and off?

This is a serious question. I'm not poking fun, but I'm truly puzzled.
