yes, super easy to do and you can EASILY do it in place.

again, very easy. IMHO, it is easier to pull the tranny that it is to pull the engine.

If i were you, i'd replace that main tranny & engine seal while it is out. You can then deal w/ the seals under the cv's at a later time. But doing those is super easy too. unbolt the CV, shove a screwdriving into the center of that 'cup' that the cv bolts to and pop the seal out. Then remove the next thing (nut, bolt, circlip? i forget) and then that 'cup' will slide out. I've done this to 3 trannies and never needed any special vw tool. So then you remove the plastic dirt-shield and you have access to the next seal. Pry her out and slip the new one in place. Reassamble. That is about it. But this can be done w/ the tranny in place. But be sure to do that main tranny seal and the engine seal while you have the tranny out!
