Here is the up to date scoop on color coding:

Brown  .3 bar  081 C  (side of case)
Black  .9 bar  081 A  (back of case)
White 1.8 bar  081 E
Blue   .25 Bar   ?   (new spec from VW) (side of case)

Does the 86-91 Vanagon have a 1.8 bar switch hidden somewhere?  BD lists one.
