Cobra and Midland offer a 4W handheld with WX and Scan capabilities that you
can run on 12V from your car or carry with you.  Accepts the speaker
microphone and channel up down control on the handset.

WX 45 or some such name.  New they're about 100USD.

I use FRS 9-5 on the road and monitor 10 and 19.
