Craig und Volks,

I replaced my engine compartment fuel lines with aircraft hose which is made from extremely durable formulas. Some of the hoses on my repowered Westy are difficult to reach so I wanted a hose that would outlast the engine. They're not cheap, but you can also buy ones that are a fraction of the original cost that are four years old or older (federal law deems many parts non-airworthy after 4 yrs). (Potential Flamers: keep in mind that even these hoses will still far outlast a new braided German hose by a decade). I also found a supplier in California that carries the top quality German hose clamps made by Gemi (these don't chew up the hoses like the typical Ideal clamps). Although my engine was converted to a Japanese motor and therefore still metric, I was still able to closely match up the SAE sized aircraft hoses to metric equivalents. Now I just have to deal with the rotted one's around the fuel tank that were replaced by a VW dealer in '98.

Gemi hose clamps and many other VW parts:

Aircraft Parts Suppliers:

They're all over Burbank, CA and should be in your town as well.

Hope this helps.

Subject: 12mm fuel line supplier?

I just came back from 3 auto-supply shops looking for 12mm braided fuel line hose to connect my fuel tank to the fuel pump on my 83 water-cooled vanagon. The piece I need is about 38cm in length. I also checked volkscafe and busdepot, but it doesn't appear they sell it. My local VW shop is closed on the weekend. Is there somewhere on the Internet I can buy this? I am assuming that I shouldn't use non-braided hose.
