The change occurred in the middle of the '89 model year. Early '89 Westies have the blocked closet door; mid to late '89 Westies don't. It's amazing that as ingenious as the engineers at Westfalia were in most regards, it took them 10 years to come up with this simple improvement - especially given that anyone who camped in a Westy for a single weekend almost immediately saw the need for it!
