What is the compression in the other 3 cylinders? Check the oil pressure. You may only have a burned valve or head gasket. If the rest of the engine is healthy, you may be able to get by with a valve job. A leak down test will reveal the failure before tearing down the engine. Dennis

Hi, I have checked the archives with no luck. I live in VA, and need a rebuilt 2.0 for my 1980 Westy. It has 130K on it and I just bought it with no compression in cyl. 3, and there is some kind of rattling noise when the engine runs. The local VW shop estimated $2,500 to rebuild it. Q1: Can I have a professionally rebuilt one shipped here for much less? Q2: Can I get one with a good warrantee?
Thanks a lot, Steve
