This is fairly relevant:

I was living in a house full of hippies a few years ago, and one of the guys living there drove a Jeep Cherokee. He special-ordered a rear-attaching tent from Jeep and had it delivered to the house.

This was a nice enough guy, but he decided to leave town and not pay his two months of rent (my name was on the lease.) Soon after he left, his new Jeep tent arrived in a cool carry-bag, and sure, a Vanagon looked kinda strange with a tent that says "JEEP" in giant letters across the front attached to it, but it fit onto the sliding door side perfectly and the awning stretched out nice and smoothly at the far end, and it matched the blue and grey color of my Vanagon...

Anyway, camping in a GL became camping in a two-room apartment with a front porch. Pulling off next to a stream in a deserted canyon, I could, in about ten minutes, set up my own little spread. It was Perfect, and thus began my belief that there is no reason for me to get a Vanagon Westfalia.

I only wish I could find the a-hole who stole it while we were tailgating at a concert in Keystone...

Get one of those tents--They make the whole thing that much better, in my opinion.

William...I have a friend who has one of these. He has a family and they use the "attached" version most of the year, either to stay out of direct sun or wet weather. Particularly good for larger groups of adults that don't want to squeeze into the 4-sleeping situation in the van. He also has an awning and so this creates a little space but can be made open to create access to each area, in the tent or the van. I'm single so the awning which creates some shade/protection for me outside my van is more than enough. Different strokes.... They are very cool for those that like them. Bob Stevens '91 Westy
