#1. Your pump can get noisy because of age, restricted fuel filter, failing fuel pressure regulator. If there are not your problems then you can count on it failing and should probably replace it or carry a spare. I've got a good used pump for $40.00 if you want it. $5.40 US Postage. #2. Fuel lines are Fuel Injection Hose. If possible, replace every fuel line in the engine compartment. Knowledgeable Vanagon owners replace these lines about every three years. Its normally about a $12.00 expense. Be especially careful to replace the lines from the fuel rail to the injectors, they seem to develop tiny invisible leaks. The stream is so minute that it evaporates as quickly as it sprays out. The best way to check for invisible leaks is to use a really bright flashlight to look at the fuel lines while you rev the engine up around 3000 rpms. The leaking fuel will sparkle in the bright light. Alternate way is to wrap the short lines with paper towel and rev the engine a few times. Check for clean spots around your engine that would indicate fuel leaks. Glad to see some more Air Cooled folks on the list. http://williamwareagency.com/forsale/stanvan/parts.htm Stan Wilder 1983 Air Cooled Westfalia
