Subject: 4-speed Transmission DAS KAPUT!!! high and dry,
              but not goin' anywhere...
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"

Hi all...well...once again my 84 westy vanagon is testing my patience. yesterday after returning home from a road trip to sedona, jerome, and prescott, arizona...second gear started spinning at about 20mph on a flat road near my house. a few weeks ago...reverse started to go bad...where as I could still use it...but i couldn't hold in the clutch and roll back in reverse because the whole van would stop as if i had hit something...when in reality it was the gears locking up.

so...my question is...have any of you found that these tranny's are easy to work on (i have some mechanical experience...and can pull my tranny on my westy in less than a half hour)...or would it be easier just to buy another working tranny from a junk yard or privately? if any of you have had the same problems...please mail me and tell me your solution.

also...if any of you have a four speed transmission for sale, please let me know about it. thanks in advance!

Myc mycologee@aol.com 84 Westy
