No need to buy a new tank- go to a Propane Tank shop and get it re-certified. Also, if you suspect that the attendant doesn't know what he is doing , find someone there that does. Our tanks are exempt from the law that applies to portable upright tanks .

Something new everyday --

Today's surprise: propane tanks. I went to fill up the tank on my 87 Westy, something I have never done before. The guy tells me he's not allowed to fill tanks more than 12 years old. Mine is original, built 9/86. The guy also tells me there is no 80% valve on my tank, which there is and I had to point out to him after looking in the manual.

Then he says he'll fill it this once, attaches the hose and it won't fill. So he gives up. I think he might have been sand bagging me. Anyone know anything about this 12-year rule?

Corollary -- anyone got a young tank they want to sell cheap?
