Based on my experience with my '85 Westy, there ain't no good arrangement of rear table and door, a problem cured in later models (like my '90). Later models (as noted by several people on the list) have a shorter door, it clears with the rear table swung in over the storage compartments above the water tank, but only if the table is all the way down. The modification (cutting the bottom off the door and gluing it in place in the bottom of the opening) seems like an elegant solution, and I sure would have done it to my '85 if I'd had the brains to think of it. As far as the rear table swinging out during travel, I added a small hook-and-eye at the left rear (as facing it) of the table top, screwed into the outer wall and the edge of the table. I used one that had a spring loaded retainer on it and it never popped loose. Worked great to hold the table in place. So far I don't seem to need it on the '90, go figure. BTW, I have found that leaving the rear table swung into it's storage position but raising it about a foot or so, held by the locking screw, allows the lids on the storage space below to be left open and gives additional storage on top of the table while camped, food, dishes, etc. kept in a plastic storage bin. When traveling, lid goes on the plastic storage box, bungee wrapped around it and the table. Drawback: with the lids up on the storage, the table still sticks our just enough to make it a problem to pull out the bed.
