It's been done with Splits. looks really neat!

Keep the rear suspension and put a braked unit coupling on. Your towing limit will be raised.

Cut the body so that the wheel-centers are at trailer midlength, as is normal for single-axle trailers. OR you could use 2 donor van wrecks and build a dual-axle trailer!
