snipped ------- What's the easiest way to get the metal crimp-type clamps off the rubber fuel lines? end snipped ------

These can be tricky. You can feel free to try the screwdriver approach, but my experience would prove that any odd, or angular force, placed on many or the often plastic connectors WILL result in them breaking off, and ruining your entire day (or week, if you work on your Vanagon as slowly as I do).

Anyway, the clamps are made to be crimped on, and cut off... never reused. The tool I use is a hand-cutter that looks a bit like an old tile cutter. It has flat "blades" at the front but at 90 degrees (meaning it is like a rabbit biting, not a scissors).

A nice large wire cutter can also be used, but be certain taht it is sharp, and that as you cut the clamp, you are only cutting through one of the crimped, raised sides, and NOT just grabbing the whole raised crimp, and squeezing hard.

I managed to break the small plastic connector off of the coolant junction box, and boy was that a pain to fix!!! The fuel distributor, near the injectors, is made of plastic, and could also break... so be gentle!

Good Luck, and have fun!
