This is a common problem with VW shock mounts. When installing shocks, always use anti-seize on the bolt where it sits in the shock bushings.

Yeah Id like to save the old shock becouse its Bilstien and its probably still good. I went ahead and splayed/flattened the end of the retaining bolt with my hefty punch and 10Lb sledge and NOW I cant get the nut back on becouse I damaged the threads ....fun Fun FUN! Stimpy! if I want to drive around Ill have to depend on that frozen bolt NEVER backing out or Ill be in trouble.

Looks like Im stuck. Ill just leave the bolt in there. Shock is still good, its a bilstien and it "looks" good (no rust) Its too bad as I have a brand new Bilstein I cant install.
