We use one of the Reimo new german Drive-away tents, and it makes the van campable for our family of four, even for long trips, even in the rain. Specifically: 1 Can sleep with the sliding door open, and still feel private and relatively bug-free 2. Can get up to pee in the middle of the night and not wake the whole family with sliding door noise. 3. MAkes Great storage Room for all the stuff we bring along 4. MAkes great changing room for the girls who are growing older. 8 year-old needs privacy now. 5. It's cool. Trust me on this one. everyone who sees it wants one. We have the sleep cabin, and use carpets and a ground cloth for the floor.

I had one of the older ones (72 model, I think) but it did not fit well on the vanagon. Additionally, the design of the new ones is incredible. Sides zip up to make very open awning, nice insulation in the roof, lighter than the old one, more waterproof, less prone to rot, better doors and windows, more ventilation...I sold the old one and never looked back.
