My Subaru conversion cost me $3500.

INCLUDING a transmission rebuild.

There are now 3 vendors supplying parts for the conversion. The wiring was still hell, but the rest is just bolt up now. It even uses several of the original Vanagon parts (exhaust). Not bad for 130HP and 137lb.ft. and 20 mpg.
