Subject: Antifreeze leak
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1

Well, I knew the honeymoon wouldn't last forever but I didn't expect it to be over so soon. Was driving my newly purchased '91 vanagon today and parked and as is habit from my air-cooled buses, I looked under the engine to see if I was dripping anything. Sure enough off the lower shroud back bolt on the left hand side was a drop of something that splashed on the ground. I of course wiped the driveway spot with my finger and it smelled like Antifreeze. For all of you veterans out there who have experienced this, where do I look for the leak and how major is this? What is its most likely cause? I just ordered my Bentley from Bus Depot and it hasn't yet arrived but I want to make sure that I don't cook my engine and want to keep the original motor installed as long as possible. Can someone give me a clue as to what I am looking at here? The engine has just over 101K miles and the PO claims that he had no work done on it and only drove it 15K miles in the past 18 months. There are no other tell tale symptoms and so far, it hasn't lost enough fluid for me to notice in the reserve tank.

Thanks,

Toma '91 Vanagon GL '66 Crew Cab '66 21 Window Deluxe
