Subject: fridge fan and smell
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Newbie question o' the day:

I got my fridge lit ok on propane. Actually I was expecting it to be more of a problem than it was. I probably kept lighting it and blowing it out, given that I didn't know what the hell I was doing. I kept looking at that little green diode on the cabinet, but it didn't go on. Then I turned the switch on and viola! the green light was on. A check in the peep hole confirmed: I had a pilot light.

So I let the thing run for awhile. And it kind of starts to stink like the first time you turn on your furnace for the winter. I thought it's just that -- first time smell. Then some kind of a fan in the back of the unit came on automatically and did not shut off in more than half an hour. Finally I shut down the gas and the fan ran for another five minutes and turned off. Normal? Is my flue plugged or something? What is this fan? Won't it run my battery down?

One more strange occurance:

When I run the sink it seems to drain water down the wall of the van, right over the LP gas tank area. I changed the line between the faucet and the water tank, and found no holes in the old line. Still, every time I turn on the sink water drains at the drain under the van, and also in this other spot through an opening in the body. I reached my hand up there and felt wet fiberglass insulation and some rust, so I know this ain't normal. Any thoughts?

Thanks Bob W.
