R-12 blows colder than 134, but is ten times the price---

Alternative's can be used--but again isn't cheap---

134 you can buy at K-Mart, and if you have the AC service equipment, you can do all the servicing yourself, and for cheap---

But---my advice would be to change all the O-rings in the whole system, (regardless of any information from any witch doctor's that advise to put a wonder oil in the system,which cause's the 134 to be compatible--) as well as the dryer---

You'd be surprised at how much cheesy crap is inside the dryer--- Changing it will make the AC system work much more efficiently

134 runs at higher pressure's--doesn't run as cold, is cheap, and it can be bought anywhere---

You be the judge---
