Thanks everyone for your advice.  The archives are a bit ambiguous on
this topic, but today's vote was overwhelmingly for MT-90.  Picked some
up tonight; pricey stuff ($15CDN per quart).  Now I just have to find a
17mm hex.

In theory, The MT-90 is used for Hypoid style diferentials (axles at
90degrees from trans input shaft) and the MTL is for Jetta style
tranny's
with axles and input/crank all turning the same way...maybe not the best
description,but I hope you get the idea.
Use MT90 for the vanagon

Subject: Which Red Line Gear Oil?

Theres lots of debate in the archives over Redline MTL (75w80) vs.
MT-90 (75w90) in the Vanagon, but nothing that has really helped me
decide between the two.  I live in Vancouver, BC where winter lows are
around 32F and summer highs are rarely exceed 80F.  I'm having some
trouble shifting into 2nd when the trans in cold, so I thought I would
try some Redline.  Any suggestions on what would work best for me???
