Jason,   I've never had this problem, but it seems that you have a problem with your breather tubes and/or your pressure compensating line on top of your tank. Either they are obstructed or they were not connected properly.   My 2 cents.

hey all, i have been off the list for a year now.  i left because of threads similar to what is going on right now.  i don't want to mention it b/c we all know which one. i just want to say to those people-- GET A LIFE!   now that i got that off my chest, i have a 90 vanagon.  i am experiencing an unusaul problem that i hope you all can help me with.  my gas tank makes a strange depressurizing (sp?) noise.  for example, when i have been driving for a while and come to a stop light or stop and turn off the car, after about 20 seconds my gas tank goes klunk!.  similar to if someone was inside the tank and signaling me to let them out.  i also hear this noise when i stop to get gas.  when i remove the gas cap, there is some pressure being released which i presume to be normal, but this is followed by a singal KLUNK!  it is defineltly coming from the tank.  could it be the return gas line being partially clogged.  the lines have never been replaced.  i have checked the tank and no visual signs of anything being loose.   where should i start? thanks jason 90 vanagon gl
