it's the wheel bearing. the CV joint will pop or click under pressure and then go away completely when you let off the gas. the wheel bearings are always turning when the vehicle is in motion. my $0.02 M -----Original Message----- From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com]On Behalf Of Todd Last Sent: Friday, May 03, 2002 2:29 PM To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Subject: Wheel bearing vs. CV joints
I have an '88 Westy with 150,00 miles and I'm hearing a noise coming from the right rear. The noise changes pitch with speed, and is louder under accelleration than when coasting - though it is still rather quiet. (e.g. you can't really hear it with the radio on.) I'm thinking either wheelbearing or CV joint. Is there an easy way to diagnose which is causing the problem? Todd '88 Westy |
