The innards of your Catholic Converter may be melted/clogged due to a previous rich-run condition. A vacuum test could confirm. It would be odd however for your Cat to be trash, and your van to pass smog.

Hi all, I've been trying to get my '91 GL to pass DC inspection for about half a year now and I finally bit replaced the pipe(s)/gaskets between the catalytic converter and engine. Although it no longer makes noise and passes DC emissions, the van seems not to have as much power as it did before - like more than 10% if I had to estimate. It seems to have less power now than my '85 Westy and it's 1.9l engine. Is this just due to the back pressure of the catalytic converter and muffler, or am I imagining things? It also seems to run a bit hotter at idle before the cooling fan cycles on/off, but I'm not sure that this is related. Any conjectures would be appreciated, Wade |
