We spent 2 months on the road last autumn and I brought my laptop because I thought I would compose messages offline and find places to dial in and sync along the way. PITA! Ended up dialing in 3 times over 8 weeks, the rest of the time we visited libraries and the occasional café. OTOH, if you have a digital camera the laptop is handy and fun to have along.
