OK, digijet tuners. I have been running 3 to 5 BTDC initial timing in the past with my old 1.9l engine. I am now running a new Boston Bob 1.9l and am a little leary of running 5 BTDC with the new engine, although the 1.9 came with a 2.1 pulley and Bob says he tunes all his 1.9s like 2.1s (which means 5 BTDC). I am concerned about adding 10 degrees of additional timing to the top end (cruising speed). I realize the 1.9 is only running a 7.6:1 CR. I was wondering if I would be better of disabling the vacuum retard built into the distributor and working from there. Without the vacuum retard, which is 10 degrees, you could start at 5 BTDC and go up from there and still have less total advance at the end. The 1.9 runs fine at highway speed, but I could use a little more grunt up through the gears, especially third gear. The vacuum retard goes away as soon as you touch the gas pedal. I would rather have a little more advance up through the rpm range, without the risk of too much total advance. Any comments? Jay |
