My original installation was to mount the fork-mount on the fiberglass pop-top at the rear, and put a bar on the hatch for the rear wheel tray. Because this has some interference, with a bike mounted, when opening the hatch, I moved the fork mount to the top of the hatch, bolting it to the metal top of the hatch. Because this still left the handlebars of bikes above the roof line, I then mounted another bar to the top of the hatch, using gutter-style towers for both top and bottom bars. I can hang on the top bar and stand on the bottom bar (did this to test bearing capabilities) and I weigh 190. Have never had any problems with bikes staying on this arrangement and can lock the rack and bikes onto my van, still open the hatch, and don't need to worry about scraping my bikes off the top while driving under something that the van will fit under. Has worked out well in my case. Bob '91 Westy
