My preference is to go into the rear cabinet where the acces to the tank is, unscrew the large lid which has the "water meter" in it, and fill from there. I've just gotten used to doing it that way. You also may have a leak in a line going from the storage tank, not just in the line going from the external/side fill line to the tank.
